Food trends survey to benefit farms

Florida farms and small- and medium-sized farms around the nation have something to celebrate in 2015, based on the results of the “2015 Culinary Forecast” from the National Restaurant Association.

That’s because the number 1 food trend in 2015 will be locally sourced meats and seafood, followed by locally grown produce at the number 2 spot.

Do I hear “great marketing opportunity,” anyone?

Yet that’s not all.

Among the top 20 list, number 7 is hyper-local sourcing, which means a food establishment that has a garden on site; number 8 is sustainable seafood, and number 10 is farm/estate branded items.

The survey also breaks down food trends by certain categories, such as appetizers, desserts, and alcoholic beverages.
